How it began.

Flockhart Fabrics began in the 1940s with my grandmother, Eileen Guthrie. She sold her designs through Primavera on Sloane Street, as well as to friends and family. My grandfather, George Kennethson — an artist and sculptor — made the printing blocks and screens and helped create some of the early designs. Together, they printed every fabric by hand and shared a deep belief in craftsmanship.

Reviving the designs.

I loved printing with my grandmother when I was young, and in 2012 I decided to bring the designs back to life, recreating them in colours that feel as relevant today as they did over 50 years ago.

I was fortunate that journalist Jane Hill, who had previously spent time with my grandparents, was keen to write about Flockhart Fabrics. Her article in World of Interiors helped launch the first collection and introduce these beautiful fabrics to an international audience.

Having grown up with the designs at home and in the homes of family and friends, it has been wonderful to see them inspiring others and being appreciated once again.
